LAWRENCEBURG, KY (May 27, 2010) —Recognized worldwide as the most authentic and flavorful of American whiskies, Wild Turkey® Bourbon is now opening its distillery doors in a new way to visitors. For the first time in its over 150-year history, Wild Turkey will provide whiskey fans the chance to taste the products that are distilled on the premises, as part of the Kentucky original’s “Road to Flavor” distillery tour.

“We are thrilled to give our visitors the chance to taste the very best whiskey in the world, as well as see the passion we put into creating something we are very proud of,” says Jimmy Russell, Wild Turkey Master Distiller. “Our loyal drinkers have been waiting a long time for this and we’re excited to truly open up the Wild Turkey distillery experience for them.”

Though Wild Turkey has been hosting tours of its distillery for decades, the Road to Flavor distillery tour now ends with an invitation to taste the Wild Turkey family of products. The tour highlights how Wild Turkey, unlike many other types of bourbon, is distilled at a very low proof to seal in its flavors—only a small amount of water is added to the signature 101 proof bourbon, with no water at all added to Rare Breed®, the barrel proof bourbon. Unlike other distilleries, Wild Turkey Bourbon uses white oak barrels with the heaviest (and most expensive) deep-layer char, which lends Wild Turkey Bourbon the signature flavor and deep russet color that distillery visitors will now get to taste first-hand after touring the distillery grounds.

Russell says, “We anticipate this will bring even more visitors to the distillery and to the great town of Lawrenceburg.  It will allow people who may not have been aware of our diverse portfolio to sample the best of what Wild Turkey has to offer. We can talk all day about our uncompromising flavor, but now visitors can taste for themselves while they learn about our commitment to fulfilling this promise.”

Product tastings at the Wild Turkey Tasting Room will be available following all distillery tours in the Visitors Center. Current tour times are 9am, 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm Monday through Saturday, free of charge. No tours or tastings will be held on Sundays or election days. Visitors will have the chance to sample any two expressions of the portfolio, including Wild Turkey 101®, Rare Breed®, Kentucky Spirit®, Russell’s Reserve® Bourbon, Russell’s Reserve® Rye, and American Honey®. All products will also be available for purchase in the gift shop.
