SOUTHERN LIVING® SHOWCASES THE KENTUCKY BOURBON TRAIL®
August 24, 2009
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Southern Living®, the prestigious magazine that celebrates the beauty and best of the South, features the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® in its September issue, available on newsstands Tuesday.
It’s the second time this month that a renowned magazine has spotlighted the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. National Geographic Traveler named it a top 50 worldwide “Drive of a Lifetime” in its current issue.
“It’s been quite a month,” said Eric Gregory, President of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association. “We’re extremely thankful for the honor and increased attention that these prominent publications bring to our signature Bourbon industry and to our state.”
Southern Living is the sixth largest monthly consumer magazine in the country, reaching more than 16 million readers each month and enjoying a circulation of 2.8 million.
The Kentucky Bourbon Trail links eight legendary distilleries, each offering a unique and educational experience on the art and craft of Bourbon-making: Buffalo Trace, Four Roses, Heaven Hill, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Tom Moore, Wild Turkey and Woodford Reserve.
Southern Living writer Jennifer V. Cole spent a week in the Bluegrass last fall, touring distilleries and diving, as she put it, “barrel-first into the spirit of Kentucky.
“Whether you sample the wares or not, you’ll pass through swaths of land kissed by God as you travel from one (distillery) to another. And you’ll never meet a more colorful cast of honest-to-goodness characters.”
The six-page spread chronicles her journey, accompanied by scenic photographs of stone fences, rolling oak barrels and trees ablaze with color. “It truly captures the timeless beauty and rich tradition of Kentucky and Kentucky Bourbon,” Gregory said.
Eleanor Griffin, Southern Living’s Editor-in-Chief, hails from the Commonwealth. “As a native, I brake for basketball and Bourbon,” she writes in her “Keeping It Southern” column.
“Napa does wine…but we do Bourbon…and the gently rolling hills and 200-year-old stacked-stone walls are some of the South’s prettiest backdrops to savor as you visit distilleries, new and old, for a taste of their liquid magic.”
