Bike Kentucky Bourbon Trail

Please note: We are currently in the process of updating our cycling maps and cue sheets to incorporate all of the distilleries and to make sure we are routing cyclists on the best roads available. We anticipate that this project will be completed in late spring of 2017.  Until then, if you have questions, or need assistance with routes, please contact Jason Monk at Easy Rider Cycling at jason@easyridercycling.com or Pam Thomas at pamjoyky@yahoo.com with the subject line “Kentucky Bourbon Trail Bike Ride Assistance”.

Please keep in mind that the cue sheets currently available on this site have not been updated to include Town Branch, Evan Williams or the Bulleit Experience. Some roads may have changed since the creation of these routes five years ago, and traffic conditions may have also changed. Before you embark on a cycling tour using the cue sheets available here, we recommend that you confirm and check your planned route using Strava, ride with GPS, map my ride, Garmin, or another cycling mapping program.

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail® tour is not a geographic region or route. It’s a series of Bourbon distilleries tours created by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association in 1999 to showcase our signature industry’s rich history and heritage. We’re pleased to offer bicyclists and others seeking “the route less traveled” an alternative way to experience our legendary distilleries and gorgeous Kentucky landscape – by bicycle. All three routes are scenic and hilly, traveling on the rural roads of Central Kentucky. For the most part, the roads are lightly traveled and stores or restaurants are generally available every 20 miles or so. We recommend these routes to experienced cyclists, as the terrain can be challenging. Although most of the routes are rural, some portions of some routes are on roads that have heavy traffic so cyclists should be comfortable riding in traffic as well.

We hope you enjoy our routes and look forward to seeing you at our distilleries. If you plan to park at one distillery and ride to another, please note that some distilleries lock their gates at closing so please check with someone at the distillery about their hours of operation before you leave.  Also, please be courteous and do not wear cycling shoes with cleats when entering our buildings.  If you plan to take a tour as part of, before, or after your ride, please bring appropriate shoes to wear indoors

Three cue sheets are available for you to download and print. Two provide point-to-point directions traveling to all six distilleries. The longer of the two also will take you through historic Harrodsburg and Danville, and by a couple of significant Kentucky historic sites – the Perryville Battlefield and Old Fort Harrod State Park. The other point to point route provides a more direct course focusing primarily on the distilleries. You can use these cue sheets to complete the whole point-to-point tour, or if you want something shorter, you can use them to ride an “out and back” between any of the distilleries – whatever works for you! The third cue sheet combination provides a loop tour of Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey (Note that the Wild Turkey visitor’s center is now across the road from where it was when we developed the original cue sheets) and Four Roses. For experienced riders, this option offers a beautiful but challenging ride that you can easily complete in one day.

Because we have had several requests for a route from The Alltech Distillery in Lexington to Woodford Reserve, here is a link to a map and cue sheet that can be used for this purpose. This route travels on busy roads in downtown Lexington until it reaches the Legacy Trail trailhead at the North Lexington YMCA. The route travels on the Legacy Trail to Citation Boulevard, where it begins to follow a route on the roads: Lexington to Woodford Reserve (Download 342KB PDF)
