Located just outside of Louisville in scenic Oldham County, Kentucky Artisan Distillery is home to several brands, including Whiskey Row and Jefferson’s Reserve. Their team of distillers runs a distillery that is devoid of iPads, relying solely on their senses to know when a batch is finished. The KAD distillery is truly as close as a production facility in the 21st century can get to how Bourbon was made 200 years ago.
KAD opened as Kentucky’s first contract distillery. Since then, they have created several brands of their own, while working with customers like Jefferson’s. This makes for a unique approach to the distillery business.
Ingredients
1 ounce Jefferson’s VSB, Whiskey Row or Billy Goat Strut
1/2 ounce Lemon Juice
4 ounces Apple Cider
Lemon Twist or Cinnamon Stick to garnish
Instructions/Notes
Shake all ingredients with ice. Pour into rocks glass over ice. Garnish with lemon twist or cinnamon stick.
All distilleries offer a tasting at the end of their standard tour. Some offer tasting-only experiences as well. But remember, slow down, savor your experiences and drink responsibly.
Under Kentucky law, visitors can purchase up to 9 liters per customer, per day at distillery gift shops. Options to ship product back to your home may be available. Please consult with each distillery and know that your state laws might prohibit shipping.
While each distillery tour is unique, plan on spending at least an hour and a half at each to tour, taste, and visit the gift shop. Many distilleries offer extended and abbreviated tours in addition to a standard one hour tour. While there are no admission fees to visit your favorite distilleries, all distilleries charge a fee for their tours. Some distilleries have abbreviated or extended specialty tours that vary in cost.
