It’s official. The Kentucky Gateway Museum Center announced Wednesday that the grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration of the Old Pogue Experience is set for Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. “This unique Kentucky Bourbon exhibit is housed in the historic Limestone Building on the campus of the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center at 102 West Second on the corner of Second and Sutton Streets in downtown Maysville,” KYGMC Executive Direictor C. J. Hunter said. A visit to the Old Pogue Experience at the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center will take you back in time to the 1791 Whisky Tax Act Rebellion; the heyday of bourbon making in Mason County; the “long thirst” of Prohibition; and the rebirth of an original Kentucky Bourbon, Old Pogue Master’s Select Bourbon, Hunter promised. “The Old Pogue Experience is the newest addition to the Museum Center’s extensive collection of historic artifacts and documents, genealogy research library, KSB Miniatures collection and modern-day changing exhibits,” he said. The building’s first floor is dedicated to the “Old Pogue Experience,” showcasing the Pogue family history in the bourbon industry, along with Maysville and Mason County’s distilling history. Visitors, especially those traveling the B-Line Bourbon Trail along northern Kentucky, will enjoy viewing early bourbon-related historical exhibits and viewing many of the Pogue Distillery artifacts. The second floor space provides much needed classrooms for the KYGMC’s Museum Scouts program, student and adult workshops and related public spaces and museum storage. Area schools will also benefit from the new spaces for educational activities and classrooms. The KSB Miniatures Collection will use the classrooms for workshop and class spaces for artists of miniatures attending the study programs from around the USA, Europe, and Asia. The Old Pogue Experience will open for regular visitors starting on Tuesday, Oct. 16 with exhibits available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. along with the museum galleries open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets to the bourbon history exhibits may be purchased in the main KYGMC Atrium at 215 Sutton Street, Maysville.
