Join us for a special dinner at Maker's Mark Distillery to honor Chef John Currence with a 2018 TasteMaker's Award here in Loretto, Kentucky. John Currence grew up in a family that loved to cook. Their time living in Europe combined with his roots in southern Louisiana provided John with a breadth of flavors. Chef Currence first cooked professionally while serving as a deckhand on a tugboat in the Gulf of Mexico, and has since journeyed through the likes of Bill Neal's Crook's Corner and the Brennan family's Bacco. He opened his first restaurant, City Grocery, in Oxford, Mississippi in 1992. Since then, the City Grocery Restaurant Group has seen many openings, including, Nacho Mama's, Kalo's, Bouré, and the Big Bad Breakfast and Snackbar. He has been honored as both Restaurateur and Chef of the Year by the Mississippi Restaurant Association, the Guardian of Tradition Award from the Southern Foodways Alliance, and in 2009 was honored with the James Beard Foundation award for the Best Chef: South. We are very excited to honor him with our TasteMaker's Award. This special evening with Chef Currence will begin with Maker's Mark cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the grounds of our Historic Landmark Distillery. If you'd like to learn a bit more about our bourbon-making process on a guided tour of the Maker's Mark Distillery, please arrive an hour earlier (by 5:00 pm) for a tour. Dinner will take place in our on-site restaurant, Star Hill Provisions, where Chef Newman Miller and team will be cooking up some of Chef Currence's favorite dishes. Tickets are limited.
