Think you got the cocktail chops to win our mint julep contest?


It’s April in Kentucky which means the horses are foaling, the mint is thriving, and the Bourbon is flowing in anticipation of the first Saturday in May which annually marks the Kentucky Derby! (Want to know how to Derby Like a Local?) What better way to prepare for the most exciting 2 minutes in sports than by brushing up on your mint julep making skills?!


Winners will receive major bragging rights and a Kentucky Derby Swag Pack from the Sweet Mash Boutique in Lawrenceburg, KY! The Swag Pack is valued at $130 and includes:

  • Sweet Mash Derby 300x297 - Mint Julep Cocktail Contest2 traditional julep glasses made by historical Louisville Stoneware depicting the running horse scene.
  • Beautifully embroidered flour sack bar towel.
  • Charred Oak scented Kentucky-made candle in a reusable rocks glass.

  • Submissions are due by 5pm EST, Wednesday, April 17th.
  • Multiple submissions per person are allowed.
  • Winner will be announced Friday, April 26th, 2019.


Please provide:

  • Single recipe ingredients in standard measurements
  • Step by step instructions
  • Name of your cocktail
  • Brief description of your inspiration for this julep
  • Photo of the finished product
  • Your email address and social handles (Facebook, Twitter, &/or Instagram)

Please note that we may choose to omit brand names. You may choose other descriptors, such as “100 proof Kentucky Bourbon.”

Judging Criteria:

  • Juleps will be judged on originality but also on their ease of re-creation
