Kick off your long weekend in the Bluegrass at Saxony Farm, a local nursery farm dedicated to raising horses.  Owners Broussard and Rosie share a passion for breeding, raising and racing Thoroughbreds, a deep understanding of the Thoroughbred industry and its people, and a love of the outdoors. This owner-led tour is a peek into the day-to-day operations of a working nursery farm, as well as a chance to get up close and personal with mares and foals on the property.

From there, wind down Old Frankfort Pike and take in the rolling hills of the Lexington scenery. Enjoy lunch at local favorite Wallace Station.  Tell ‘em we sent you for the Original Wally Burger!

Visit with three Kentucky Derby winners while learning how a stud farm operates at the distinguished Godolphin at Jonabell Farm. Owned by HH Sheikh Mohammed, Jonabell Farm is rich with Kentucky history as well as modern day international acclaim as a breeding operation and racing stable. This tour includes a visit with stallions and a drive through the bucolic property.

After your day in South Fayette County, you’ll work your way downtown for a tour at the Bluegrass Distillers on West Sixth Street, one of the many great stops on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft TourⓇ!

Cap off your first full day by checking in to your room at 21c Museum Hotel. Don’t miss the chance for an inspired dinner – and another bourbon cocktail, of course – at their onsite restaurant, Lockbox.

Claiborne Farm, who raised, raced, and now is the home of the grave of the iconic Secretariat, welcomes guests to their Bourbon County property. Learn about thoroughbred breeding, visit well known, prolific stallions, and spend a moment at Secretariat’s grave. Be sure to check out their gift shop and bring a little piece of Horse Country home with you.

Hartfield and Co. Distillery is just down the road nestled in the heart of Paris and is another stop on the KBT Craft TourⓇ. The first and only distillery in Bourbon Co, KY since 1919 (yes, you read that right!), offers free walk-in tours and will greet you like family.

Take the scenic way back to Lexington and enjoy the surrounding farmland. Take a break and get a delicious bite to eat at the Windy Corner Market on your way to the Town Branch Distillery. Town Branch, the first distillery in Lexington proper in over one hundred years, joined the Kentucky Bourbon TrailⓇ in 2012 and has the distinction of being both a brewery and a distillery.

Give them a ring in the office any time by dialing 859-963-1004 and they will happily assist with itinerary planning and recommendations.

We may work here, but we’re locals and fans, too – and it is our great pleasure to share these experiences with you. Cheers to horses & Bourbon.
