Getting here, and getting around.
Self Drive
While there are many guided transportation options available, many opt to self-drive the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® so they can enjoy it at their own pace, on their own time. Travel times between distilleries range from a few minutes to a few hours, offering stunning views of Thoroughbred farms and rolling hills along the way.
If you choose this option, we highly recommend planning to have a designated driver in your party. Learn more on our Responsibility page.
Rideshare
Nothing is more important than your safety while enjoying the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® tour. The transportation providers above are the best way to plan travel to and from distilleries; however, guests in need of on-demand rides can utilize taxis and app-based rideshare services, where available.
While drivers are abundant in Louisville and Lexington, wait times in rural areas can be long and unpredictable. Guests are encouraged to keep this in mind and use the app’s scheduling function to plan ahead. Learn more about Responsibility.
Biking
Fitness and outdoor lovers can experience the excitement of Kentucky Bourbon Trail® by bicycle. It’s no easy feat—but experienced cyclists will appreciate the challenge and beauty of Kentucky’s world-famous rolling hills.
Bike the Kentucky Bourbon Trail® on your own terms. Using local knowledge of the safest and most scenic routes, our local cycling experts have designed recommended routes for the self-sufficient cyclist. Each rider plans their own trip, carries their own gear/equipment and arranges accommodations. Please remember to book your tours with the distilleries ahead of time.
Note: Safety is priority (the shortest route is rarely the safest route for cyclists). You cannot leave your car at distilleries over night.
Airports
Out-of-state Bourbon explorers can arrive at any airport in Kentucky—but we recommend touching down at Louisville International Airport, Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport, or the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport.
All three airports have nearby distilleries, so touch down and you’re on your way to savoring the world’s most celebrated spirits on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®.

No. Please be sure the company you book with has the proper documentation and insurance to guarantee a safe experience. Please check out some of our recommended transportation providers on this page.
While rideshare drivers are abundant in urban areas like Louisville and Lexington, wait times in rural areas can be long, unpredictable and sometimes unavailable. Using a rideshare service to get to more rural areas of Kentucky does not mean that rideshare service is available for a return trip – meaning you could find yourself without a ride at the end of the day. Visitors are encouraged to keep this in mind when using rideshare apps.
